The majority of testimonies given in churches today are confusing. To make matters worse, I believe most don’t even give a clear gospel presentation. Here’s a recent example: Not too long ago, I was sitting at a dinner table with three evangelical missionaries.

The Deceptive Testimony

In a conversation with a good friend, I was asked about the times in the old testament where God kills men and women. I didn't have a good response at the time, and possibly still don't. After thinking about it for a while, though, this is what seemed appropriate to say. God only gives life […]

Is God a murderer?
The End

Paul hated the false gospel of salvation by works. He had a very low bar for what counted as works salvation. And when he found out some teachers were preaching works salvation to the Galatians, he was furious, and said, "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you […]

What does it mean to be accursed?

I have a friend from another country who sent me a gospel tract and asked for my feedback. What I found in the tract stirred up a lot of thoughts and emotions about how we in America talk about the Gospel. We have a terrible habit that is choking the life out of our gospel […]

Stop The Swap!

“So, when are we going to start working on my garden?" you ask.  "Are you sure you're ready?" Aunt Loola asks as she sets her tray down on the table. The line at the buffet was long, and your stomach is growling.  "Yeah, I'm ready. Why wouldn't I be?" you say as you set your […]

Thorn Farmer

You put the car in park in front of an old, dilapidated-looking house. It could be the scene of a blockbuster horror film. There are holes in the roof. Wood rot marks the siding. The door hangs askew. Despite the horrid state of the untenable home, you notice a garden that fills the entire front […]

What kind of savior was Jesus? What does it mean to believe in Jesus as your savior? What kind of salvation do you expect Him to give? Shawn Lazar answers these questions by focusing on what Jesus promised: everlasting life.

What kind of salvation does Jesus promise?

Avi stepped cautiously through the garden, which was bathed in a dusky light. He hummed softly against the whistling breeze and giggled at the funny shape of the bouncing melody. He let the music rise, adding humor with every note. The original composition bubbled with life and movement. He could hear it taking shape in […]

The Broadcast

The three stayed in Low King Hans's estate for another few days as they awaited their departure to the capital. Avi, Carina, Bhoora, and Rachit arrived at the sky port sometime near dusk. They had been instructed to gather their things and prepare for departure for Jerusalem. Amos accompanied them there before saying goodbye at […]

Recently, I went through the painful process of leaving a church that believed turning from sins was necessary for salvation. As an immature believer, I didn’t identify right away what was wrong with their doctrine and faithfully followed their teaching. With time, I became more and more troubled. I was unsure whether I had turned […]

Rooted in Fellowship

The drive through the withered lands was harrowing. The dried landscape stretched on for hours. Sometime near dusk, they came to the other side. Just like the wall of wind-born dust they had entered, they discovered another great wall of grit near the edge of the territory. This time they drove the truck through it, […]

Free Grace Kids: S1 Ep07

At 14 years old I remember lying in my bed at night praying over and over, "Lord forgive me of my sins, and save me." Every night I performed this ritual. There were no sins in particular that I was referring to. Instead, I was uncertain that my sins had been forgiven in general. I […]

What Exactly Do I Have To Do To Be Saved?

A couple of years ago we loaded up our 3-year-old and 15-month old into our homemade camper van. Do not picture the trendy kind of van you can stand up in and cook breakfast barefoot while admiring a mountain top view. Picture the type of van parents warn their children not to go to for […]

Finding Joy In The Pandemic

I recently received a good question. QUESTION: I have a question I can't find an answer to. Maybe you would have some kind of an answer. I literally have only one question. My faith doesn't waver. I just don't understand one thing - If God is all-knowing, and if he loves us so much, then […]

The Space Station That Proves God Exists

At one of the most challenging times in my life, someone loved me so well that it made me think, “Maybe there’s more to God than I realize.” Here’s what I’ve learned since, narrowed down as much as possible.

"We do not get very many visitors to Jazira. As you can see, your arrival is an exciting occasion,” shepherd Oksana said. As she spoke, a young boy appeared with plates of food heaped with a tasty looking supper.  “Wild rice, fire-baked water chestnut, taro, steamed caltrop, and aquatic spinach,” the boy said before disappearing. What is belief? John Piper gives an incredibly confusing and convoluted definition of "belief" and "saving faith." Lucas tries to unravel the mess.

Lucas Answers John Piper

How it doesn't fit First, here is how the Russian Invasion DOES NOT fit, into End Times Prophecy. Contrary to a lot of teachers of Bible prophecy (especially contemporary ones), this invasion is not a precursor to the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38. There are several reasons for this (and I have included them in this […]

How Does The Russian Invasion Fit Into End Times Prophecy?
FG Kids Archive 1

Even though Jesus gives an explanation of this parable it is still widely misunderstood. Many teachers will encourage you to "check your soil" to see if you are truly saved or not. The gift of eternal life is not something to be questioned or determined based on a person's actions.

Aristotle and many who followed him saw that the universe was in motion. He often called this energy that he recognized as “eternal motion.” He once said, “Did motion come into existence, not having existed previously, and will it again, in a similar manner, cease to be so that there will be no motion?”[1] In […]

Aristotle, the Bible, and Cosmic Reality?

The Bible is a big book. Actually, it is a library of many books, each with its own purpose. Where should you start reading?

Where Should I Start Reading The Bible?

In this exploration of Mark 1: Lucas Kitchen uncovers the kind of authority that Christ demonstrated in everything he did.

Who has the authority?

We have attempted a garden for many years and we usually call it a “learning experience” because frankly, we have had mixed results. But, there is something about trying again and hoping for that bountiful harvest of overflowing baskets full of beautiful, shiny produce. This year, we were highly motivated because we thought we may […]

Contemplations of Quarantine: Ten Lessons from the Garden

Quite a lot, actually. Even though many atheists and Christ-opponents claim he never lived, there is plenty that disagrees with this opposition position. Take a look at the various sources that support Jesus' existence.

What does history say about Jesus' existence?

Got this question from a reader recently: Wouldn't it be a good idea to introduce someone to the Old Testament law before I share the Gospel with them? Don't they need to know they are a sinner which the law proves before they can understand the Gospel? First, John is the evangelistic book in the […]

Do you need the Law to get the Gospel?

You arrive at the feed store at ten thirty with a thermos of coffee in hand. You head straight for the gardening section in search of Aunt Loola. She's finishing up with a customer when you arrive. The Jesus Myth hypothesis: For itching ears only. This is the idea that Jesus never existed in history but was made up centuries later. Supposedly his attributes were borrowed from other pagan religions. So... yeah. I'd like to respond to that. This is an overview approach, I'll leave the minutia to the scholars. One of the […]

Is Jesus a Myth?

I received this question recently: Is it really necessary for an isolated people group to hear the gospel? I remember sitting through a sermon a long time ago about accountability and God will judge each person accordingly. It made sense that God would not condemn a person if he/she has never heard the gospel or […]

Salvation And Discipleship Introduction

I was a gangly kid of thirteen

Dark feelings and  insecurity

I Went to dad and said him

Do I need to get saved all over  again

No, son, it’s a once and done

Don’t mistrust God only begotten son

He opened the pages of first John

Talked of assurance, I was stunned

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.

I was still feeling really insecure,

So Dad said I should talk some more

With my bible study leader at our little bible church

So that Sunday I waited by the door

How do I know I’m really, truly saved

I said to him, hoping to be free

Security would be in me

surely as easy as one two three

The fact that you're asking is a really good sign

He said as I waited for something more divine

But It never materialized, and he was done

That’s it, that’s all, nothing about God’s Son

I guess he’d never read the writings of John?

For him, the Eternal was a “maybe it’s done.”

How could he live with such uncertainty

I shoulda showed him what dad showed me

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that  you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.

Over the next thirty years or so

I’d count more doubts than my fingers and toes

The church is drowning in salvation doubt

makes me want to shout this out out

Jesus and John said so clearly

The thing we continually fail to see

Read the words, and you’ll see what I mean

Right there in first John five one three

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that  you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.

I Write These Things To You (Single)

My toddler, completely enthralled, was watching his dad clip his toenails and asked: “Do I eat toenails dad?” My husband and I both laughed (after my gag reflex subsided) at this question and let him know that it’s not a good idea to eat toenails. My son’s latest trend is to ask if he can […]

I received an unexpected sweet treat from an admirer last Valentine's Day. A delightful half dozen previously enjoyed donut holes upchucked all over my lap by my adoring almost 2-year-old son. Not an ideal way to start a day meant to be full of romance and affection. Although, I suppose you could say this is ultimately where romance and affection leads.

Lucas and Kristah discuss the often misunderstood concept of fearing God.

What does it mean to fear the Lord?

"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). What does it mean that God does not want anyone to perish? What does it mean that He wants all to come […]

Zariah led Avi up a winding set of stairs that must have spanned twenty floors. She kept stealing stray glances at him as they climbed toward the top. I'd like to explain a few things about how repentance and belief fit together. I do not believe that repentance (turning from sins) is a requirement for receiving eternal life. I have some reasons for this, I'd like to share a few. John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe […]

How does repentance connect to belief?

As the travelers walked along their way, Avi and Carina shared what they had learned from the wanderers with Rachit and Zariah. Though the conversation moved in new directions, Avi […]

Many Christians think that if a Christian turns away from the faith (even true faith) they will lose their salvation. Many others believe that turning away proves that the faith was never true in the first place. Find out why both of those options aren't right in this short video.

I was a young twenty-something getting ready to go on my first mission trip to India. In preparation for the trip, my church required that all members of the team had to complete an 8-week course on overseas missions. I was nervous but excited about missions, so I took the class very seriously. About halfway through the program we had to write out our salvation testimonies. I remember struggling with this assignment.
