Nearly 25 years ago, when I was 15, my Mom asked one of my favorite people, to this day, to please come and talk with me (aka 'fix me'). I was living a life that those who didn't know me then would never believe. It doesn't get a whole lot worse than the path I'd […]

The Talk That Changed My Life

As Christmas approaches, I find myself filled with excitement as I think about ideas regarding how to make the season magical for my children. What presents should I buy? How should I decorate the house? What traditions do I want to start for my children? I find myself quickly slipping into the more worldly aspects […]

A Different Kind of Christmas List

For the first time in over a year, I got a solid eight glorious hours of sleep. I don’t have sleep issues, shift work, or an overactive bladder. I have a 14-month-old baby who likes to have a midnight… 2:00 am, 4:00 am, and 6:00 am snack. Ideally, parents sleep train in the first few […]

Procrastinating Patience

As a stay-at-home mom... I often feel like I don’t have any important kingdom work to accomplish. I’m just stuck here at the house, changing diapers, and trying to puzzle out how to get a one-year-old to eat solid food. This is while others are out there sharing the gospel, doing ministry, and changing the […]

God's Big Important Job For You

5. Watch Your Kids Not Your Screen Kids are good at reminding us what they want. We constantly hear, “Daddy, watch this,” or “Mommy, Look what I can do.” This is a reminder of what a young child wants. They want your attention. They want you to look at them, not at a screen. They […]

Top 5 Parenting Tips For Young Kids (#1 Beats Them All)

Now that my husband and I have been married for a few years, he has figured out that I don’t just want a box of chocolates and a dozen roses for Valentine’s Day. While I appreciate both chocolate and flowers, what I desire is a handwritten note with a personal message just for me. That’s […]

The Love Letter

Building a biblical marriage can be difficult, but the following are five tips to help get you started from a married-a-long-time, has-a-bunch-of-kids, still-in-love, wife.

Be Mine: 5 Biblical Ways to Be a Better Valentine

In the daily grind that is parenting, consider the things we do over and over that aren’t always fun but are necessary to keep our families moving forward - things like diaper changes, meal preparation, and laundry come to mind, among others. The repetition of these things happens so often that we sometimes do them […]

Prayer and The Daily Grind of Parenting

We had been married for about eight years and finally settled into that comfortable rhythm that only experienced couples can manage. It was Easter Sunday. After church, we had lunch at his parent’s house before heading home for family nap time. The warm April sun was flowing through the double glass of the back porch doors. Our six-month-old daughter snoozed quietly in her bassinet as I curled up heavy-eyed next to my already sleeping husband. I remember the feelings that swirled around on that pleasantly average afternoon. Optimism, hope, and peace were what characterized the first half of the worst day of my life. Little did I know that seven hours later I would become the widow of a suicidal husband and an unprepared single mother.

Blessed Assurance

Is That True?

Like many of you, we view our entertainment through streaming services like Disney+, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, and Netflix. No doubt, you've seen how hard these platforms are pushing a new promiscuous morality. Even children's shows and movies have become permeated by homosexual themes. Recently Disney+ had a homosexual short film in a featured spot […]

Tech Companies Want to Make Your Kids Buddhist.

Lucas and Kristah talk about suffering, and the power of a Spiritual mindset.

Suffering for what?

My toddler, completely enthralled, was watching his dad clip his toenails and asked: “Do I eat toenails dad?” My husband and I both laughed (after my gag reflex subsided) at this question and let him know that it’s not a good idea to eat toenails. My son’s latest trend is to ask if he can […]

Putting Good Things Into Your Body

Last year, New York passed a bill expanding the right for legal abortions into the third trimester. Other states are now seeking to follow in their footsteps and pass similar legislation. This bill allows abortions of fully developed babies up to birth. Those advocating for the bill have admitted that it would even allow the […]

Puah and Shiphrah

I received an unexpected sweet treat from an admirer last Valentine's Day. A delightful half dozen previously enjoyed donut holes upchucked all over my lap by my adoring almost 2-year-old son. Not an ideal way to start a day meant to be full of romance and affection. Although, I suppose you could say this is ultimately where romance and affection leads.

Worst Turned Best Valentine's Day

Lucas and Kristah discuss the often misunderstood concept of fearing God.

What does it mean to fear the Lord?

It was a warm morning at the flea market so I headed for the section of the open-air trading grounds nestled under the grove of towering oaks. After a full day of setup, it was the first morning the market was open to shoppers. Many vendors were taking it easy in their lawn chairs, with […]

Is That True?

Have you ever met Grumpy Dad? That’s me about half the time. Let me explain. We’re a family of five, with three kids under the age of seven. We recently took a road trip to the Smoky Mountains (about 10 hours of driving each way). Most acquaintances know me as friendly, talkative, and outgoing. But […]

Grumpy Dad

I remember when I began registering for items before I got married. There was both giddy excitement and awkwardness. It wasn’t my birthday or Christmas and people were giving me most everything I wished for, It just felt strange to me.  My favorite thing that we received, still today, is my colorful Fiestaware. I chose […]

Blue Plate Special

A couple of years ago we loaded up our 3-year-old and 15-month old into our homemade camper van. Do not picture the trendy kind of van you can stand up in and cook breakfast barefoot while admiring a mountain top view. Picture the type of van parents warn their children not to go to for […]

Finding Joy In The Pandemic

I'm going to skip the boring parts. Here's what you need to know: My five-year-old daughter, Eily, got Covid. She and I quarantined together and had no symptoms. Thus began the magic. We've hunted for treasure through mysterious trails carved in the autumn leaves. We went on forest adventures in the enchanted wood that touches […]

The Magic Of Quarantine

As parents, it can feel as if the list of what we need to teach our children can be long and arduous. This perhaps became even more apparent this Spring when parents were suddenly thrown into teaching their children at home with little to no preparation. It falls on our shoulders to consider our children’s […]

Teach Them in the Way of Wisdom

My husband told me he wanted to stop looking at porn but told me he needed my help.

The Pornography Battle in Your Marriage

Mary had just received news that she was pregnant, by the Holy Spirit, with the Messiah. And her immediate response? An expression of faith. Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to Your Word.” Luke 1:38

The Mary Mantra

While continuing in a long season of infertility and loss, I decided I would read the gospel of Luke last December leading up to Christmas. The first chapter started with not one, but two miraculous pregnancies that were promised by God to Mary (Jesus) and Elizabeth (John the Baptist). Simultaneously, I happened to be reading […]

If your parents didn't take you to an amusement park as a kid, they either didn't love you or…. No, that's pretty much it, they didn't love you. The park of choice for those near Dallas is the famed Six Flags over Texas. It's a theme park with towering roller coasters, fair-style games, a steam […]

A father's nightly rituals are a thing of boundless fascination to his son. His endless hours at work might as well have been spent in a mysterious patch of the Brazilian Amazon as in an office building two miles from the house. My brothers and I would anticipate the nightly ambush we planned to lay […]

Bunk Bed Tears

Not many days after the bunk bed incident, I was standing by my Dad's drawing table. The walls of his studio were always crowded with drying paintings. That's where he would work when he had freelance illustration jobs.  At that time, he was building upon a budding career as a painter for hire. From children's […]

The Drawing Table

Grandma and Grandpa lived in Dallas. Our trips there often came in winter since the most active concentration of holidays accompany the cold weather. We would draw shapes in the fog our breath made on the van windows as we drove.  Being a kid who lived hours from my grandparents meant I was probably more […]

Things Above (Book)

As we grew into devious little miscreants, we could feel the blisters brought by the struggle against our behavioral constraints. With each wriggle, they grew tighter. There were rules at home, rules at school, and rules on the playground. There were even rules for proper bathroom etiquette. Didn't they know I was a descendant of […]

Dark Magic

My fourth-grade class was buzzing with Christmas-time enthusiasm. The whir of exuberant voices filled the room as a holiday coloring sheet went around. The Christmas break was coming, with its presents and candy. The page slid into place as I reached under my desk for my crayons. Some kids had the 48 color set, but […]
