“Where’s Eustis?” asked Fred Gibbs.
“Probably sharing with some street creep,” Leena Bickle said with a dismissive wave and a smile. The others laughed. “You know how Eustis is. Planting seeds everywhere he goes. He’ll get here when he’s ready to be here. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind us starting without him.”
The others nodded in warm agreement. Martha Grambling laid a gentle hand on the shoulder of her husband, Todd. They sat next to the window. As the motion in the room stilled, Fred brought his voice above the gentle murmur.
“Thanks for coming, everyone,” Todd said, smiling as he looked around the room. “Especially thanks to Melone for baking that wonderful apple pie. I can’t wait to dig in, but before we do, let’s—”
A loud explosion ripped the front door off the hinges. The house rattled as glass sprayed onto the wooden floor. A blast of smoke and splintered shrapnel fired into the living room stinging the skin and eyes of everyone there. Fred Gibbs was on his feet. Everyone’s ears were ringing, but they could hear Fred through the din. “They’ve found us! Scatter!”
The dozen occupants of the living room spread out, moving quickly for the two exits. Leena Bickle and Sue Tuttle were rushing toward the stairs but skidded to a stop across shards of glass. A scream pierced the flurry of footsteps behind them. Leena Bickle collapsed to her knees and interlocked her fingers as Sue Tuttle’s eyes locked on a mortifying silhouette. It couldn’t be. The shape of an enormous man, clad in black battle suit, drifted ominously into view. His head would have hit the wood if the doorframe hadn’t already been blown to cinders. “The admiral,” she whispered as she tripped backward over an upturned chair.

Mars In Focus

I just read a really fantastic Christian fiction book… especially if you like space adventures. It’s called “Missionary to Mars” by Lucas Kitchen, and it’s full of the things of Jesus, evangelism, sharing Bible truths, salvation, and the persecution of believers.. His hero, Eustis Grimes (the name is significant later), is the last Christian believer in the entire solar system. And he possesses the very last copy of the Holy Bible. His mission is to get to Mars and share the Gospel with the people there. Meanwhile, an arch villain is hunting him, determined to brutally destroy the last Christian witness…ever. (You can guess who he represents.) I loved Eustis’s story, courage, and determination to share Jesus with the people of Mars. He was unstoppable, courageous, and yet humble, joyful, and always giving the glory and thanks to God. I cried and praised God for joy throughout the book. My heart swelled with thanksgiving when the first person believed. WOW! Eustis’s faithfulness in persecution was amazing and strengthened me. I want to be such a witness for my Savior! The space and sci-fi aspects of the book were perfectly written and believable, but they did not overpower the story. It was fun, exciting, suspenseful … and glorious to read! There was even a sweet, small love story. I have already bought a copy for someone in my family who wants “to go to Mars! -Amazon Reviewer

The Scuttle

“Fun, exciting, suspenseful … and glorious to read!”

The Scuttle

Lucas Kitchen has created a compelling story with rich characters and deep character development. It is a Christian sci fi book and the story is a skilled blending of both. The story is not predictable and doesn’t shy away from violence as it depicts a world initially without the gospel or any value of the preciousness of the individual Life. The book also is full of quick wit and humor among the dialogue. A great read and has me longing for a sequel and also longing for such a life of significance. -Amazon Reviewer

Research Commune

“...best ensemble of characters I’ve met in a long time… I love them! They could have taken me just about anywhere.”

Research Commune

I laughed. I cried. I think I mostly laughed. It was just so delightful, unexpectedly so. I loved this book from the first page. How is this the first Lucas Kitchen book I’ve read?! It offers the best ensemble of characters I’ve met in a long time, maybe ever. And they were so quickly and perfectly developed. I love them! They could have taken me just about anywhere. Great book! Really great book! -Amazon Reviewer

Missionary to Mars really works. I was skeptical but the story was believable and such a fresh take on the potential of the Gospel. The depiction of courageous believers was very refreshing! Highly recommend. -Amazon Reviewer

At 68, I see I’m not really the target market for this book, but I enjoyed it very much as a Christian, and as a science fiction fan. There’s plenty of drama, action, comedy, and even some romance that should be enjoyable for any age group. I very much appreciate the Gospel message that is the central theme of this book, that Jesus came to Earth to take the sins of the whole world upon Himself, and paid for those sins by His death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Please check out Missionary to Mars! -Amazon Reviewer

Slingshot Station

"This Christian Sci-fi book is filled with dangerous threats, dozens of comedic moments, and even a little romance sprinkled in along the way."

Slingshot Station

Christian Science Fiction is a rare thing, but the author makes it work here. This book is a blend of action, suspense, comedy, heartwarming, and the gospel. Interesting characters (with a truly evil villain), including a hero who is somewhat naive as he is thrown in with a pirate-like group of scoundrels but determined to get himself to Mars to preach the gospel. Of course, things don’t go as he wanted, but it all works out in the end. I really liked this book, and I would have given it five stars, but for a large number of typos and some clunky dialogue. An editor would have helped improve this book.-Amazon Reviewer

“It’s been a long time since a book made me laugh out loud and cry!”

Admiral Strafe

“I cried and praised God for joy throughout the book.”

“This book could actually be a great long-form gospel tract to an unbeliever who loves science fiction books but would never read a three-page tract or have a three-page conversation on the gospel.” -Amazon Reviewer

To Mars

“Like the Book of Acts in space.”

“Missionary to Mars helped remind me that the gospel is important enough to risk your life for. As this captivating sci-fi story shows, the gospel can change a life and a whole city.” -Amazon Reviewer

Rudwick

“Full of action, was clean, and had a good message.”

“The gospel can change a life and a whole city. That's also what makes it so threatening to hostile powers. Lucas Kitchen brings that spiritual warfare to life and sets it among the stars. I look forward to the next books in the series.” -Amazon Reviewer

Captain

"Missionary to Mars greatly surpassed my expectations."

“You're bound to enjoy the journey."

This renewed my faith. I expected a bit of a cheesy story but was absolutely intrigued with the depth of the characters, the world building and the idea of low atmospheric pressure in a prison system as a punishment. That seemed diabolical and absolutely likely given scarce resources that would be likely in space colonization. Apart from that it was a fun story and enjoyable that the main character wins over each of his people ever so slowly. -Amazon Reviewer
