Song Lyrics.

I was a gangly kid of thirteen

With eternity insecurity

So I Went to dad and I said him

Do you think that I need to get saved again

No, son it’s a once and done

Don’t mistrust God only begotten son

He opened the pages of first John

We Talked of assurance and I was stunned

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.

I was Still feeling really insecure,

So Dad said I should talk some more

With my bible study leader at our little bible church

So that Sunday I waited at the door

How do I know I’m really truly saved

I said to him hoping to be free

CertainlySecurity should be in me

surely as easy as one two three

The fact that you asking is a really good sign

He said, as I waited for an answer more defined

But It never came out and he was done

That’s it, that’s all, nothing about God’s Son

For him things Eternal were just a “maybe.”

He didn’t know first John five thirteen

How could he live with such big uncertainty

I shouldda showed him what dad had showed me

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that  you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.

A few years later with some friends I knew

We stood outside and talked for a few

He asked her something about Christ

His doubts were big and on the rise

I did my best to answer what he asked of her

He wished aloud I was his pastor

We coulda but we didn’t talk faith any after

Later that year he was driving faster

He lost the road and lost his life

With some doubts on his faith he died

I really wish I’d told him what Dad had told me

But we’ll have the time to talk when we’re in the heavenlies

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that  you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.

After many years of confusing myself

I met a pretty girl as clear as a bell

She Brought back what dad said to me

had lost my assurance but not security

Over the next ten years or so

I’d count more doubts than my fingers and toes

The church is drowning in salvation doubt

And it’s something that we got to keep talking about

I write these things to you

who believe In the name of God’s son

So you may know that  you

have eternal life. You can Know it’s true.
