What Did Jesus Actually Claim?

What did Jesus actually claim?

In this episode of the Seeker Series, we look at how Jesus presents Himself in connection with the written record. Jesus claimed that the Scriptures testified about Him, that He was sent by the Father, that He stood within the promised King and kingdom storyline, and that He gives everlasting life to the one who believes in Him.

These are not separate or unrelated claims. The title “Christ” ties the written record’s promised King and kingdom storyline to Jesus’ promise of everlasting life. In John’s Gospel, the promised King is also the giver of life—a life that death cannot ultimately defeat, perfectly suited for the promised kingdom that will never end.

And if Jesus made claims this big, the next question becomes unavoidable:

Did God publicly validate those claims? That’s the question we’ll explore in the next episode as we examine the climactic sign of John’s Gospel and the central event proclaimed throughout the New Testament: the resurrection.
