Just listened to the great discussion on fear of the Lord. Very timely since I was just trying to explain how believers can experience God’s wrath. But my husband would like you to explain how in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25) the servant’s fear of God was reprimanded. Bill asks why was that servant’s fear wrong.
Seems to me that he was reprimanded for his inactivity, not because of what he believed about his master. However, it also seems to me that what he believed about his master was incorrect. He believed that his master would not allow him to enjoy the reward of his labor (which wasn't true) and he feared a false outcome. So, his "fear" was not exactly for his master directly, but for some false conclusions he had made about his master. In the end, though, he was reprimanded for his inactivity.
