I'm here at Kanarra Falls in Utah, and man, I'm thirsty. I've been on this maybe two or three mile hike, and I haven't had any water yet. You know, people will hike a long way for water that looks beautiful and still, but they'll still walk away empty. You know, Jesus offered something different: whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst, but the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. Kanarra can cool you for an afternoon. It cannot fill you forever. Everlasting life is a gift you receive by believing in Jesus. The waterfall is a picture. Jesus is the source.

We were down in Kanarra Falls — that red-rock canyon hike outside Zion where the trail turns into the creek itself. The walls go straight up, the water's cold on your boots, and it's hard not to feel like the place is already preaching before you say a word. A beautiful waterfall can cool you for an afternoon. It cannot fill you forever. Everlasting life is the water Jesus gives — a gift you receive by believing in Him.
