  1. Your teaching on the baptism of repentance would imply that the unbeliever would need to do a "do over" of their life in order to prepare them to be justified, which is contrary to the Gospel. A better explanation would be that those being baptized, were Old Covenant saints who had believed Moses and the Prophets about the promised Messiah, and would now transition to the New Covenant through faith in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah, the Divine and human Son of God. John's baptism was indeed for forgiveness of sins, but was to restore fellowship much like believers use 1 John1:9. The Father was drawing these saints(His sheep) to the Son. John 6:44-45
    New International Version
44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’[a] Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. John 10:25-30
    New International Version
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[a]; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one. Those who looked forward to the promised Messiah had the faith of Abraham. Romans 4:16
    New International Version
16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. Any other approach causes nothing but confusion.
