"This Summer, we made a short film together, and we want to share it with you!"
-The Kitchen Family
Description: Fed up with their distracted parents, siblings Kate and Jackson wish for a world without grown-ups. The next morning, they wake to an empty house—their wish has come true. Excitement turns to fear when they realize they have an important duty to perform in the absence of all the world's adults. As danger looms, they regret their decision, desperately praying for their parents to return.
Runtime: Approximately 20 minutes
Rating: The movie is not rated, but it is family-friendly. It has kids being destructive, aggressive, and silly, but it fits well within what might be found in a Christian indie film for kids.
Purpose: The short film promotes prayer, gratitude for our God-given families, and being able to apologize.
The Kitchen kids were out for the summer, and Dad Kitchen (Lucas) enrolled them in the Kitchen's family "Media Camp," as we called it. Each day, the kids would come up to Lucas' media studio for an hour to write the movie script. The time was full of laughter and big ideas. When the movie was written, we went into production, which was about two weeks of intensive work. The whole family (including the kid's cousin Charlotte) was involved in the production. What began as an attempt to occupy the Kitchen children with some summer-time educational media-making turned into 20 minutes of kid's entertainment. With the short film, we aim to encourage families to create something together.
Our family works with a ministry called Free Grace International that was founded by the kids’ grandpa, John. As part of this ministry, we create media, including films, that point people to Jesus.
